DAM (late 1960s) Deaf Art Movement – Visual art with Deaf themes (founded by Ann Silver, Harry Williams and John Darcy Smith in the late 1960s while college students at Gallaudet

Spectrum – Deaf Artists Colony in Austin, Texas (Late 1970s) included video, theatre, dance, visual art, ASL lit, English lit – not always Deaf themed. Hearing person (Jannette Norman) established, Betty G. Miller and Clarence Russell brought the ranch land and Chuck Baird and other artists lived near by. They hosted several summer arts festivals and programs for Deaf children as well as had exhibits and a touring dance co.

De’VIA (1989) Deaf View/Image Art Manifesto– Art by Deaf or Hearing people – Deaf Themed visual art. Founded by 8 artists and 1 art historian (Betty G. Miller, Paul Johnston, Deborah M. Sonnenstrahl, Chuck Baird, Guy Wonder, Alex Wilhite, Nancy Creighton, Sandi Inches, Lai-Yok Ho) Many other artists were creating Deaf-themed art but unable to attend. Ann Silver and Tony McGregor were added to the statement of philosophy in 2016. De’VIA works tend to be Resistance, Affirmation or Liberation pieces
