Welcome! As one of the missions of De’ARTivists United (D^AU), we are committed to bringing Deaf View/Image Art De’VIA into the classroom and community. The De’VIA Curriculum project began after an artist retreat in Olathe, Kansas in 2013 where 40 Deaf artists gathered to examine the past, present, and posterity of De’VIA. In addition to the creation of a large mural to honor the original 1989 De’VIA mural, which is missing,
and to examine how De’VIA has evolved and where it is going, there was also discussion on the importance of developing De’VIA curriculum for Deaf children and community members. In the summer of 2014 a group of De’VIA artists and art teachers gathered at Rochester School for the Deaf in NY to work on a De’VIA curriculum, lesson plans, and activities. Special thanks to all the donors, sponsors, artists and teaching artists who have donated their funds, time, expertise, talent, and works to this project.
